Marie Laveau was a famous and powerful voodoo priestess who lived in New Orleans in the 19th century. Renowned in life and revered in death, some say she continues to work her magic from beyond the grave. Naturally they wondered why she appeared so much younger with the vigor of her youthful days.

HOUSE OF VOODOO
This house is in an area of the Silver Lake neighborhood called The Colony, where you'll find a number of Neutra designs on and around Neutra Place. You can see them from the outside by touring off Earl Street between Silver Lake Boulevard and Glendale Boulevard. The original structure was designed and built by architect Richard Neutra with a no-interest loan from a Dutch philanthropist. Architect Richard Neutra's private residence in Silver Lake seemed radical at the time, a glass house with rooftop and balcony gardens. This unusual house was designed for him by Arthur L. Haley in the Arts and Crafts style; it retains its original interiors and furnishings. Schindler came to California to work for Frank Lloyd Wright and supervise construction of the Hollyhock House.

After her death, her fantastic legend continued to grow throughout the United States and beyond as ‘Queen of the Voodoos’, having songs and newspaper articles featuring her as well as local lore that continues to this day. She is buried at Saint Louis Cemetery #1 and is honored in many households as a spiritual ancestor. The renowned master of martial arts, Bruce Lee, a native of the United States, suffered a cerebral edema in 1973, being in Hong Kong, which caused his death.
The Murder House
Laveau died in 1881, and is said to be buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, in the tomb of her husband’s family, the Glapions. Some scholars dispute this as her final resting place, but it is mentioned in her obituary, and is the most likely spot. Whether she lies inside doesn’t seem to matter to the amateur occultists and French Quarter tourists who flock here in equal measure. They scribble Xs on the whitewashed mausoleum in hopes Laveau will grant their wishes.
CHARMS & TALISMANS
The house is owned by the MAK Center, which also runs the Schindler House and you'll find details about the tours at the MAK Center website. People would seek out “conjurers” or other spiritualists for spiritual intervention or protection in their daily affairs. Although most workers used their powers for positive forces, there were some who did not. It was probably the work of this small percentage of people that was sensationalized by people outside of the religion. This aspect of the religion became known as hoodoo and is often the basis for misconceptions that public society has about Vodou. Vodou, as a religious system, is derived from spiritual practices from Dahomey, the historic western African kingdom (located in what is now Benin).
Despite his talent and recognition, in 1896 he made the decision to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head. Today his remains remain in the Cemetery of San Fernando in Seville, where his tomb is found accompanied by a large sculpture of Christ of the Honey . Continuing with Ancient Egypt we find ourselves with Jintakus III, the queen and wife of Pharaoh Neferefra . His tomb was found in 2015 and, due to this discovery, it has become one of the most researched tombs in the current era. His body is found in Abusir and, as is often the case with Egyptian tombs, various artistic and historical artifacts were found next to it.
(That practice is discouraged by preservationists, who say it has no basis in voodoo tradition and damages the delicate tomb.) In 2014, a restoration of her tomb was completed. A large fine is now in place for any visitor who attempts to write on the grave. Masks, ceremonial tools, artifacts and house blessings adorn the walls and ceiling of the shop. These items were used or were fashioned upon original spiritual artifacts. Such objects are used in religious ceremonies, have social significance or they may be symbolic fetishes that resonate with particular folklore, rites or uses from these cultures.

Death
This apparent eternal youth added to her mystery and power to outsiders who believed she could never grow old. The house was restored to its original grandeur by Patrick and his boyfriend, Chad Warwick, who was drawn to the home's authentic Tiffany glass fixtures. Both were brutally murdered by the Rubber Man on the evening of Halloween. At least for a while, the house was used as a sorority for a nursing school, but was presumably shut down following the deaths of two nurses by serial killer R.
