NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line to introduce 1,000 dedicated solo staterooms across its 19-ship fleet
I believe this is temporary due to all of the supply chain issues. After a planned Transatlantic in December 2022 on the Epic, I’ll confirm if the dining has improved. The Epic cruise ship has more than enough to keep passengers from getting restless during their vacation. Just like a typical Las Vegas bar, there are video gambling machines embedded in the bar and you can get just about anything you want. This bar tends to get busy with walk-up traffic from the restaurants in the evening as it’s faster for diners to get a drink sometimes. The main dining restaurants on the Epic with a menu that changes regularly as well as a daily / nightly fixed menu for those who don’t appreciate change.
Norwegian Epic Staterooms
With plenty of activities for guests of all ages, Epic is ideal for families. Children have access to the dedicated clubs and adults will find solitude in the adult-only Spice H2O area. New evening entertainment options are also introduced at the ship’s theatre (deck 5). Among those are the musical “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” and the Broadway-style dance show “Burn the Floor”. Engage in Norwegian Cruise Line's onboard activities, including water parks, casinos, dance clubs, arcades, ropes courses, sports courts, duty-free shops and more. Cabin bathrooms with sink (storage space underneath), glass-door shower, shower dispensers, luxury bath products (Elemis in Haven and Spa rooms). Each of the cabins features a uniquely designed bath with separately located shower and WC/toilet and vanity sink. Oceanview cabins are nonexistent on this ship, which offers many balconies and a renamed category of balcony, originally known as the Deluxe Balcony. These became the mini-suites, although they were just a larger balcony stateroom and not a suite at all.

All suites and balcony cabins have sliding doors opening to a private veranda. The entrance to Pulse is via Mandara Spa, which comprises multiple treatment rooms to accommodate the full menu of treatments. Many guests, including those who have access because they booked spa balconies, head to the Thermal Suite. Other specialty restaurants include Cagney’s, La Cucina, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki, Yakitori and Sushi. Except for Moderno and Teppanyaki, which currently charge $39, the specialty restaurants are à la carte.

The Norwegian Epic cruise ship by NCL is a unique vessel known for being one of a kind. It was built in 2009 and set sail in 2010, offering a mix of positive and negative experiences for passengers. Despite being the least favorite for some, it is frequently chosen due to its availability and affordability for last-minute vacations.

The dining options are varied, plentiful and sure to please. But over time, every cruise ship begins to show its wear and tear. As such, in 2015, Norwegian Cruise Line announced plans for a two-year, $400 million, fleet-wide refurbishment program, and Norwegian Epic was a part of this program, which was dubbed The Norwegian Edge. Norwegian Epic was planned as the flagship of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Epic class. Two ships for the class were ordered in November 2006 (including Norwegian Epic), with the option for a third vessel from the same shipyard, STX Europe Chantiers de l’Atlantique. The mighty NCL Epic ship belongs to a unique vessel class (no sisters by design) and was one of the Norwegian “Nickelodeon” ships - together with Breakaway and Getaway, and also Gem and Jewel.

The bar is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the good weather and have any number of daily frozen specials. See our 360-degree photos of the large balcony cabins on the Epic. Because of the ship layout and strange angles of the exterior, you will end up (usually) with a balcony that may be 50% larger but not as enjoyable. For one, you end up looking into the neighbor’s balcony/cabin when stepping out to the railing. So the reality is there is no benefit to the larger balcony staterooms on the Epic. The cabins on the Norwegian Epic are where most passengers have a strong opinion.
The choice to cater to passengers who traveled alone or with friends not wanting to share a cabin was a huge hit for NCL. They’ve become so popular that all future ships built for Norwegian Cruise Line have included solo cabins. Of all NCL Epic cabins, 75 are located in the signature all-suite complex “The Haven”. The Epic cruise ship has the world's largest number of Studio rooms (single-occupancy cabins for solo travelers) available for booking – a total of 128 studios. The ship is also unique with the lack of any Oceanview cabins (outside staterooms with Picture Window or Porthole Window). The ship offers two separate main pools (with four hot tubs), a kiddy pool area and a pool for suite guests.
Cagney’s, the steak house, needs no explanation and Wasabi serves sushi and yakitori. The specialty restaurants are à la carte, except for Moderno and Teppanyaki, which charge a fixed price. Epic is the first cruise ship ever to have (and so many of them) "studios". All solo cruise cabins are bookable with single occupancy rates. Norwegian Epic Inside Staterooms are a great and affordable accommodation for up to two guests. They feature a separate bathroom with shower and two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed.
Since the ship is so large, it’s easy to get lost or turned backward, so use the fish to guide you. My only complaint with Bliss on the Epic is that the age restriction hasn’t been enforced in the past 2 voyages I’ve had. While other ships seem to do a better job at keeping the 18+ rule, staff on the Epic didn’t. Attached to the Chinese restaurant, this is a bar serving traditional dumplings and dim sum. A very good Chinese restaurant with classic Chinese dishes and soups.
Even table settings and linens have been replaced and the staterooms have also been updated. Norwegian Epic sailed into the cruise world in 2010, bringing several innovative features onboard. You also have access to the buffet on a complimentary basis, as well as the pub, O’Sheehan’s, which offers more American-style food than pub fair.
